K Damodar Rao (b.1957 in Nalgonda Dist of Telangana) retired as HoD and Associate Professor in the Department of English, Kakatiya University, Warangal, Telangana. He obtained M.A English (1979) and M.Phil (1990) degrees from Kakatiya University. He served as Lecturer in English at Bhadrachalam, Warangal (Rangashaipet) and Narsampet before joining the University service in March 1991.
A well-known critic-translator, K Damodar Rao has many publications to his credit. He has published more than 50 articles in areas of African Fiction, Indian English Fiction and Translation Studies. His books include the pioneering critical work, The Novels of Aye Kwei Armah New Delhi : Prestige Books 1993, Postcolonial Theory and Literature Ed. Besides, he has 11 translated works( see 'Literary Work') to his credit. His other areas of interest include Postcolonial Literatures including Protest Literature, Women’s Writing, Latin American Literature and Regional Literatures in English Translation.
He was the Associate Editor of the Kakatiya Journal of English Studies for 9 volumes including the special numbers on Mahasveta Devi and New Indian English Fiction and its Editor for 2 volumes. He has translated extensively from Telugu into English and introduced quite a number of Telugu poets to English readers. His translations of Telugu poems and short stories appeared in more than 25 journals such as New Quest, Pratibha India, Indian Literature, Revaluations, Haritham, Kavya Bharathi, and Kakatiya Journal of English Studies.
He won a prize in Literary Translation Contest organized by the central Sahitya Akademi on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee (1957-2007) of its bi-monthly, Indian Literature for his translations of N. Gopi’s Telugu poems.
